Human and Artificial Intelligence in Banking
SFI Master Class
“Artificial Intelligence (AI) is transforming both everyday operations and strategic capabilities in banking—from smarter risk controls and fraud prevention to personalized customer experiences and more efficient back-office processes. As regulatory guidance matures and governance practices strengthen, banks will continue to expand responsible, governance-aligned AI deployments while exploring more advanced uses, including generative AI for content, decision support, and automation.” This was written by the AI system GPT-5 on November 13, 2025, at 19:07 following the prompt: “what is the role of artificial intelligence in banking currently?” Needless to state that while it may be hard to currently gauge where the impact of AI will stop in banking, we need to start thinking hard about its further introduction and use. And we want to start doing so simultaneously assessing its impact on human intelligence (HI).
Objectives
Building on industry practice and recent academic insights, this Master Class provides a high-level overview of the introduction of AI in banking and its impact on the deployment of HI. We tackle the topic on purpose from a finance and not an HR perspective to give finance practitioners a new view on the issue. Participants discuss—using the latest available data—implementation approaches and both opportunities and shortcomings of current practice. Overall, the Master Class aims to equip banking and finance professionals with up-to-date, relevant high-level knowledge of this challenging topic. The specific objectives are:
- Becoming familiar with the role that AI can play and its interactions with HI in banking.
- Specific features and importance of HI in banking
- Discussing best-in-class approaches to the introduction and use of AI in the banking industry
